Description


CPLP-TB is a multi-marker molecular epidemiological database of Mycobacterium tuberculosis Complex clinical isolates originating within the Community of Portuguese Speaking Countries (CPLP). CPLP is presently comprised by nine member states that together account for 10 742 000 Km2 (7.2%) of the world’s land area and an estimated population of approximately 258 million people.

 

The molecular markers currently used in CPLP-TB for strain comparison are Spoligotyping and different sets of Mycobacterial Interspersed Repetitive Units – Variable Number of Tandem Repeats (MIRU-VNTR). In the future, CPLP-TB will also accommodate genome-wide SNP data as it becomes available from an increasing number of CPLP member states.

Presently, CPLP-TB harbours 1447 clinical isolates from five distinct Portuguese -speaking countries, of which 423 and 40 correspond to multidrug and extensively drug resistant strain, respectively.
